Just Trying to Relax

Trying to Relax but find it hard

For most of us, that is what we are trying to do, just trying to relax. It sounds simple enough but all we have to do is look around at all the people who are stressed. If your reading this maybe all you have to do is look in the mirror.

So why is just trying to relax so difficult for us, all you have to do is google it and you will find so many ways to help with specific problems. In truth that is one of the problems, we all view things differently. Plus, we mean slightly different things even though we may use the same words.

Trying to Relax

If I asked you to describe an emotion without using another emotion or feeling to describe it, you will find it exceedingly difficult. Stop for a moment and try it, describe what love is but be logical and factual. If you do it, you will see the difficultly and what you do come up with, do you think that is the list other people would come up with?

trying to relax with emotions

Now when I asked you do think of love, what type of love did you think off. Love for one-self, love for your parents, your children, your spouse, your pets. Maybe it was love for a deity or maybe physical love?

That was only one word but straight away we can go into different directions and then how do we perceive it. What does it me to us and what emotions do we attach to those thoughts or meanings? That is how we see life on a daily basis.

Something comes into our awareness and we think, what does this mean to us, then already in our subconscious we have programs that will align emotions to this. It does this because our subconscious is lazy, very powerful but lazy.

If you need to talk to someone about sexual abuse try the Irish Rape Network.

So that is a reason why you may have tried something in the past that has worked for others but not you. We are all unique and when some programs get to precise it can create a problem.

Its easy enough to relax or at least partially in most cases. I am not talking about panic attacks, you can more about them in other posts. In my next post ill explain how you can relax in simple general steps and explain why it works.

Self-Esteem with Self-Hypnosis

How to Build Your Self-Esteem with Self-Hypnosis

If you have read some of my other post you may have heard me say before that at times its not about finding something but it’s about getting rid of the negative images and films that we call memory. If it’s a bad memory what will happen if we do it again? Will it be dangerous, will we look foolish and what will other people think? In other words, judgment.

There is no point looking for inner peace anywhere else except within yourself. You do not need to travel and pay someone a fortune all you need to do is change the negative into positive. Imagine having happy thoughts on a constant basis, would you be happy? And being happy is what we really want.

If you have any questions about Self-Esteem or what Hypnosis is please call for more information or see our home page, Dublin Hypnosis Dun Laoghaire.

A social phobia is a fear of interacting with others on a social level. Examples would be talking in front of other people, waiting in line at the checkout imagining others are looking at you, or even fear of talking on the phone.

Self-confidence is a feeling that allows people to have positive, yet realistic views of themselves and their circumstances. Self-confident people have confidence in their own abilities, have a general sense of control over their lives, and believe that, within reason, they will be able to do what they want and need to do.

Confidence is a perspective that is accomplished through experiences. When a person experiences success, that person will tend to expect to be successful. And that very expectation will cause a feeling of self-confidence.

Imagine A young lady who is scared to death of being in high places wants to learn to dive into a swimming pool from an extremely high diving board. So, she finds a diving coach who asks her to take a jump into the pool from the first rung of the ladder going up to the high diving board. The first step of the ladder is not awfully high, so the young lady feels confident, and she dives from that rung, and lands in the water unharmed.

Next, the athletic coach has her take a jump from the second rung of the ladder, and so forth. I assume that you see what’s going on here. With each new step she takes as she climbs higher up the ladder, since the girl was able to jump without fear or harm, and the next higher step is only slightly higher than the last, the fear factor is negligible, and the girl expects to be successful. When she dives in and is unhurt, the girl’s self-confidence increases, and her expectation of success on the next step up the ladder increases.

If a person who has a long history of success and feelings of confidence does fail, they still tend to expect success the next time out. Conversely, when a person who is weak in the self-confidence department fails, they tend to lose confidence, and expect failure, which can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Having true self-confidence doesn’t mean that individuals will be able to do everything. People, who have true self-confidence, usually have expectations that are practical. Even when some of their expectations are not met, they continue to be confident and to accept themselves.

People, who are not self-confident, tend to depend excessively on the approval of others in order to feel self-confidence. They usually don’t take risks because of the fear of failure. They make light of themselves and tend to discount compliments that they receive.

Conversely, confident people are willing to risk the disapproval of others because they generally have confidence in their own prowess. They acknowledge themselves; and they don’t feel they have to conform in order to be admired.

Just because one feels self-confidence in one or more parts of their life, doesn’t mean that they will feel overconfident in every single part of their life. For example, a person might feel optimistic about their athletic prowess, but not feel confident as far as members of the opposite sex are involved, such as in a dating situation, or social relationships.

So how is Self-confidence developed Initially?

Many powerful and effective truths have an impact on the development of self-confidence. Parents’ attitudes are critical to the way children think about themselves, especially in their early years. When parents provide admiration, children receive a solid foundation for self-esteem.

If one or both parents are excessively demanding or critical, or if they are overprotective and discourage moves toward independence, children may be fated to believe they are incapable, inadequate, or inferior.

However, if parents encourage a child’s moves toward self-reliance, and they are not overly critical when the child makes mistakes, the child will learn to accept herself, and will be on the way to developing self-confidence.

A lack of confidence is not necessarily related to a lack of ability. A lack of self-confidence is often the result of centering much too strongly on the ridiculous expectancy of other people, friends and parents. The control of peers can be more powerful than that of parents in shaping the feelings about one’s self.

Overcoming Fear of Flying with Hypnosis

Quick way to beat my fear of flying

While I see clients all year round with a fear of flying i see a big jump coming up to the summer holidays. this is normal as more people fly at that time of year, well at least where I’m from. In Ireland there is no need for internal flights, so summertime is the peak time.

While some fears of flying may start after some sort of accident in the air, the vast majority of the ones I’ve seen come from something else. Some people are claustrophobic, the idea of been stuck with no way out is terrifying. Some people are or feel they are forced into going on a holiday with friends and family and feel trapped with no way out.

Claustrophobia, social anxiety and you have seen so many flights crash on the media which is a visual repetition and authority proof of what can happen. Plus, on top of that each case can be slightly different but a feeling of being trapped, powerless, out of your control will play a part.

In hypnosis we find the problem, reframe it, change it or give it a different meaning while including positive affirmations. What this does is change the feeling associated with flying. Basically, when you think of flying a different feeling is present, so your experience of flying is different.

Fear of flying is a phobia that keeps people from getting onto airplanes and heading where they need to be. It is something that can afflict a person for many years and usually there is no rhyme or reason to why it impacts a certain person. It is simply a mental block that keeps people from rationally thinking about flying in an airplane.

This can be a particularly devastating problem for people who are in business, as flying across the world has become a very important part of the business landscape. Maybe you need to head across the ocean to close a business deal. Maybe you must travel a long distance to see a sick family member. Whatever the case may be, it is always nice to have the option of flying.

Fear of flying is a common thing. In fact, many people suffer from anxiety when it comes to flying in an airplane. The problem occurs when that bit of anxiety turns into a lot of anxiety and you can no longer function while flying in an airplane.

At that point, fear can occur when a person goes to get on a plane, or it might even cause them to stay home. This is something that can be fixed, but it takes some mental conditioning. It takes a change in thinking in order to achieve the goal of chasing away the fear of flying.

A complete change in mindset about flying and airplanes is something that can be achieved through hypnosis. As a practicing hypnotherapist, I have seen my share of people overcome different mentally based problems. Things like smoking, alcoholism, and gambling addiction can be cured with hypnosis and so can a fear of flying.

Many people think that hypnotherapy is simply something you see out on a stage in Las Vegas. This is short-changing the process a whole lot. Though it might seem like magic, hypnosis is a treatment that enables people to calm down and let good thoughts replace those ill thoughts. You would be surprised with the number of things that hypnosis can cure.

If you are struggling with fear of flying and you see no other solution to cure this fear, then consider hypnosis.

Can you Cure Phobias with Hypnosis?

Yes, you can cure Phobias with Hypnosis

After anxiety and depression phobias would be the next common problem clients come to me with. There are far too many phobias to list, some overlapping symptoms, some seeming the same and others still in question.

It doesn’t matter what their called, what matters is how they are affecting you and where the problem is coming from. Many clients come to me and say they know exactly where the problem is coming from but what they remember is the first time the phobia caused them a problem.

Most phobias come down to a feeling of lack of control and for most of us that feeling goes back a long way. Think about your phobia, do you feel in control?

A phobia is an irrational, persistent fear of a certain object or situation. There are several different forms of a phobia. A phobia can be a fear of something specific such as flying or a social phobia which causes an individual to feel anxiety about a social situation. Examples of a specific phobia may involve a fear of small animals, closed in spaces and snakes. Social phobias would be a fear of giving a speech, talking to the boss or meeting new people.

It is estimated that over five percent of the population has one or more clinically diagnosed phobias. A phobia usually begins in childhood and continues into adulthood. Some phobias, if left untreated, can debilitate a person. For example, someone with agoraphobia, a fear of the outside world, is unable to leave their house. It is important to deal with a phobia head on in order to rid yourself of your fear. Hypnosis is a proven method to cure phobias.

Hypnosis is a process that introduces positive suggestions into the subconscious mind of an individual. A deep state of relation is induced in which the subconscious mind is the most receptive to new perspectives and ideas. As the positive perspectives and ideas are introduced the client, undergoing hypnosis, will receive motivational encouragement, confidence building statements and a direct plan for curing a phobia.

The new ideas that are introduced into the subconscious mind cause a person to form healthier beliefs, values and habitual thinking patterns. An individual no longer has to live with their phobia. A phobia takes control of a person’s life. Regain the control back by using hypnosis to cure phobias.

An individual who has undergone hypnosis will experience other additional health benefits. Clients have found that hypnosis calms the nerves, the mind and the entire body. Hypnosis releases stress and alleviates anxiety. The positive ideas and perspectives that an individual receives build self-esteem and boost confidence. Hypnosis has a positive effect on every aspect of a person’s life. This is a safe, gentle and positive process that can be used by both teenagers and adults.

Stop living in fear. Hypnosis has the power to cure your phobia. If you want to rid yourself of your phobia then I recommend, as a practicing hypnotherapist, that you visit with a qualified hypnotherapist located in your area. Hypnosis can lead to a happier and healthier existence that is phobia free.

Fear of Being Alone

Autophobia is the fear of being alone

This fear is the fear of being alone but for some they may be surrounded by people and feel alone. Most of us have felt that at some stage! Add to this that there is so much cross over into other fears and phobias that many people can’t pinpoint what is wrong with them.

Call for a FREE Phone Consultation Dublin Ireland

If you look it up you may get different names for it like isolophobia, or eremophobia. Monophobia is another one and when you look for definitions things become clouded.

So the best way is not to get bogged down with names and stick to the feelings.

For some they are physical alone, no friends, partners or close family. This group can often focus on the worst case scenario thinking. For example, I will always be alone and I’ll die alone.

As you can imagine this become a cycle of think that is hard to come out off. For others they may have people all around them and they just feel alone, isolated, unappreciated and unloved.

As I have said before it all comes down to our own perception of the world around us. If we perceive that no one loves us and all our hard work is unappreciated then that is what we see. It doesn’t matter if in reality that is not true it is the individual’s perception of events.

Like some other fears and phobias this can have nock on affects. If you feel this way you may find it hard to join in with groups. You then reduce your circle until you’re stuck at home with a fear of going out, (agoraphobia).

You may experience panic attacks while at home or when out at work or in public. It can destroy years of your life if you don’t get help.

One of previous clients I worked with exhibiting this fear we were able to go back to his childhood where his parents showed him no love or emotion. This was not perception but just how they were. Your parents are the way they are because of their perception of what has happened to them. Just like you are the way you are because of your perception of what has happened to you.

The good news is this can be changed. If an event has taken place it has happened but how you think about it and the feeling that comes from it can change. I’m located in Ireland, if you have any questions please call or for more information on hypnosis see our home page, Dublin Hypnosis Dun Laoghaire.

Fear of Needles

Trypanophobia the Fear of Needles

In this article we will talk about two types. The first is the extreme fear of medical procedures involving injections or hypodermic needles. The second is the fear of getting a tattoo because of the use of needles.

Dublin Ireland

Not all but a lot of our fears and phobias can be traced back to when we were children. This may not be your case but just imagine as a young child being brought to the doctor’s office or hospital. The child is in a strange place and then the child is being held so they can’t move to get an injection.

As you can imagine this could be upsetting for a child as well as the parent. Now you could say that it’s in the best interests of the child and in most cases your right but that doesn’t change what has happened from the child’s perspective.

Now there may be many variations of this as well as other factors. If like in arachnophobia the fear of spiders you see a parent or guardian freak out over spiders you can create the link that spiders are dangerous. So, maybe as a child you saw or heard negative talk about needles from someone you would have thought as a protector.

In hypnotherapy we would desensitise the memory and help you see it in a different way. Everything is about perspective, that’s why as humans we see the same thing so differently from the people around us.

Yes we see somethings the same but not everything and the further out of your group you go the more differences there are among us.

It may also come down to your sensitivity. It’s natural for some people to have a higher threshold for pain than others. When it comes to getting a tattoo it could be anything above or a combination of them. Plus I know you can remove a tattoo but it is for intents and purposes permanent.

There is a fear of what if it goes wrong what will I do? What if it looks terrible can I change it? Will it affect my job, relationship and it’s almost endless. In hypnotherapy we discover first what the fear is and where its coming from and then desensitise it. If you are in our area please contact us if you have any more questions. or please visit our homepage for more information, Dublin Hypnosis Dun Laoghaire.

If it’s only some general stress you want to get rid of we run a guided relaxation through hypnosis session which may be the thing you’re looking for. Stress plays a big role in our lives but we don’t have to hold on to it.

Fear of flying

Fear of flying goes much deeper.

There are many names for it and most are incorrect for our purposes here. If you look at aerophobia which many say is a fear of flying it’s actually an abnormal fear of drafts of air, gases, or airborne matter. So there is no point getting bogged down in definitions.

Dublin Ireland

If you suffer from flying you can nearly always break it down into 2 categories. You believe the plane will crash into the land or sea and if you survive you will have horrible injuries. That also includes take offs and landings. Or you fear not being able to get of the plan.

Since flying is the safest modes of transport you would have to figure out where this fear comes from. Have you had a personal experience or maybe someone you know? Did television footage of a real crash affect you in some way? Or was it a movie that got under your skin and your mind has done the rest.

Most people underestimate what effect movies have on us. If you think of a good film for you, you follow the characters, you get involved in there story and you feel the emotions. An idea plus strong or intense emotion can create links in our sub conscience.

Through hypnosis we can find the reason for the fear of flying and desensitize the memory and help re-frame the memory. To find out more about hypnosis see our home page, Dublin Hypnosis Dun Laoghaire.

If like many you hate the thoughts of being stuck in those small seats, strapped in with nowhere to go you could be looking at claustrophobia. You may want to read this article on Claustrophobia The fear of being confined.

If you think about it, you back bags and put them into cars, buses or taxis. Then you enter a secured building with long corridors with no exits unless it’s an emergency. It may be too hot, the lights to bright.

Then you queue up; maybe multiple times to board a small cylinder type shape to be told to sit, put your belt on. When that door closes you’re trapped with nowhere to go.

Does that sound like a pleasant experience to you? It’s no wonder some people are afraid to fly. Thankfully there are ways to reduce or remove these feelings.

If it doesn’t bother you that much why not try our guided relaxation through hypnosis session. Relieve stress and unwind…

Arachnophobia

Arachnophobia the fear of spiders

In truth arachnophobia is the fear of spiders and other arachnids such as scorpions but many people only fear spiders. Now I have to say this really depends on where you live in the world.

Call for a FREE Phone Consultation Dublin Ireland

If like me you live in Ireland and you see a spider you can simple pick it up and move it. There could be the extreme case where a neighbour has lost a dangerous one or maybe a pet shop that keeps dangerous spiders.

I had to add that last bit in, just in case!

Now if you live in a country where a spider’s bite can do damage or even kill then being vigilant is prudent. It all comes down to, is the fear unreasonable or is there real grounds for it.

For other information on hypnosis visit our home page Dublin Hypnosis Dun Laoghaire. We have a high success rate removing this fear; contact us if you have any questions.

It may be that you came from a country were the threat was real to now living in a country with no dangerous spiders. Where being vigilant is now redundant but the habit is so ingrained that you can’t stop jumping when you see a spider.

Other possible reasons for your fear of spiders!

Maybe you had a spider crawl over your face when you were very young and as a baby you couldn’t get it off. This does happen and when you think about how many spiders are around its bound to happen. I know if you’re reading this that may not be a pleasant thought but it depends on the threat factor.

Another common way to pick up this fear is, as a young child (under 7) you see a parent or guardian scream at the sight of a spider and jump away or even pull you away and your subconscious makes a connection. A protector, a care giver, someone you depend on for your safety is scared of these things then they must be dangerous.

If you would just like to remove some stress why not try our Guided Relaxation through Hypnosis session.

Claustrophobia The fear of being confined

Is Claustrophobia the fear of small spaces?

Well I suffered with claustrophobia for several years and it’s not the way I would explain it. Say for example you get in a lift and it’s packed, full capacity 12 people and you hardly can move. Now imagine it gets stuck and it’s so difficult to get your coat of because it is so hot. It’s not difficult to see how that could cause a panic attack if you suffered from claustrophobia.

Call us for a FREE Phone Consultation Dublin Ireland

Now imagine getting into the same lift but its empty. There is room for another eleven people while you’re standing there. You press the button and the doors close, now you can’t get out till it reaches its destination. For many this can cause a panic attack but you have space to move around.

So imagine going into a shopping centre or mall on a busy day. You start to look around for the exits, just in case you need them. It’s all going well and you’re being brave until the lights are too bright, your breath catches and panic hits you.

You need to get out, you won’t make it but there’s a toilet. You rush in, your taking back control, you can stay in the cubical for as long as you need. You can splash water on the back of your neck and when you’re ready you can walk at speed from the shop.

Strange thing is that the toilet was much smaller than the shop and the open area of the shopping centre, but you could control it!

Please contact us if you have any questions our see our home page for more information, Dublin Hypnosis Dun Laoghaire.

So let’s take it a bit further…

Some idiot has bought you and your partner a trip down a cave walk. You can walk upright the whole time; you enter one cave entrance and emerge from another cave entrance. As you walk down you look back at the entrance and step by step you’re further from the entrance till it’s gone.

It’s worse, there is only room for single file traffic and there is a que of people behind you.

If you think about these examples you will see there is a perceived loss of control. I know yours may not be the same but think about it. I drove for a living decades ago and I had to give the job. It cost me so many things, friends and even a will to live. I’ve been there and know how it feels!

This is one of the reason why I got into hypnotherapy and if I only knew then what I know now I would have saved myself years of misery.

Fear of Public Speaking

The fear of public speaking is called Glossophobia

The word glossophobia derives from the Greek γλῶσσα glōssa, meaning tongue, and φόβος phobos, fear or dread.

Many people experience fear of public speaking and in many polls percentage wise it is a bigger fear than death. Some people may call it stage fright or even panic attacks. Most people who fear to speak in public will get through it but for days leading up to the time where they need to speak in public the worry and anxiety builds.

Call us for a FREE Phone Consultation Dublin Ireland

This can lead to other problems, even down to being short or bad tempered with your partner and children. While most people get through it there are those who can’t.

Some people will simple freeze and when this happens it reinforces the feeling of doom and dread they feel and the knowledge that they can’t speak in public. Others may start to stutter even when they have no stutter and this can create one. It’s easy to see how one problem can create more but you can remove fears and phobias with hypnosis.

For others they will pass up promotions as they would need to talk to staff or even not turn up for an interview because they feel terrified and powerless. While some individuals may scoff at this for the people going through it, it affects their life on a daily basis.

Some of the symptoms you may have if you have a fear of speaking in public are, dry mouth, full bladder, sweating hands, face and other areas. Week legs to the point of your legs giving way. You may experience palpitations right up to a panic attack.

If you think about what causes it, the answer for most cases is some perceived trauma usually when you were young. Speaking in front of people is general not dangerous so It’s a fear of being judged. When you were a child did a teacher make you feel stupid in front of others? Maybe it was a parent or guardian and you perceived their tone or facial expressions as disappointment.

We do live in the real world so many of us have parents and teachers who aren’t nice. That’s just reality and most of us are affected by what has happened in the past.

When you understand how the mind works this is simple to understand. Using hypnosis we find the cause of the fear and desensitise the memory and reframe it so it loses the negative feeling attacked to it. If you would like to find out more please contact us and we are happy to answer your questions.

If it’s not a major problem but you feel somewhat stressed why not try our Guided Relaxation through Hypnosis offer.
